Those pesky peanuts...

... cause so many problems for those who are severely allergic to them. Planes are very confined areas and what might seem like an innocent snack to some, is lethal to others. This is a great article from Allergic Living, worth reading...

When I knew my cat allergies were out of hand enough that it was finally time to consult an allergist was on a cross country flight. The person sitting next to me was a cat owner and apparently there had been a cat on the plane earlier in the day. With the recirculated air I had a reaction bad enough that the crew was getting freaked out, and it lasted long enough that my employer (it was a work trip) ordered me to see a doctor during the trip. On the plane, I knew it was bad and did consider asking for the on board O2 just because I knew it wouldn't have cat dander (trust me, at that point they would have given it to me), and that was a reaction that was nowhere near life threatening. I can't imagine how scarey it would be to have an anaphylactic reaction on an international flight over water, where a timely emergency reroute might not be possible.
